Why does moving change my insurance rate?

Auto insurance rates are heavily influenced by where you live. Factors include local accident rates, theft rates, weather patterns, population density, and even the number of uninsured drivers in your ZIP code. Moving from a rural area to a city — or vice versa — can change your rate by 20–40%.

Do I need to switch carriers when I move?

Not necessarily, but it’s worth having looked at. Your current carrier may still be competitive in your new area — or not. The carrier that was right in your old ZIP code can be expensive in the new one. A full review is the only way to know.

When should I update my insurance after moving?

Immediately. Most carriers require you to update your address within 30 days. Failing to do so could result in a claim denial.
